Jailed Cuban dissident invited to international conference Oscar Elias Biscet Gonzalez Havana, CUBA. The World Movement for Democracy invited Dr. Oscar Elias Biscet to participate in its Third Assembly to be held in South Africa in April of this year. 42-year-old Oscar Elias Biscet Gonzales, president of the Lawton Human Rights Foundation (Lawton Foundacion), was arrested on December 6 last year at a human rights seminar when he was going to address members of a Club of Friends of Human Rights who came from Matanzas province to Havana. After the arrest he was transferred to Combinado del Este, a maximum security prison in Havana. On October 30 last year Biscet was released from prison after having served three years for dissident activity.
